Before I watched Forks Over Knives I penned an article for Upscale Magazine’s November 2011 issue titled “Eat Meat?: Should You Be Concerned About Consuming Antibiotic and Hormone Treated Livestock?”
As I interviewed experts for the piece I started to learn things that frankly startled me and made me start spending the extra few bucks to by grass fed, hormone and antibiotic free meat. For example, I had no idea that Europe has an importation ban prohibiting U.S. meat.
Wow.
They won’t even let it in the CONTINENT.
What should that tell us?
Since then I’ve started dabbling in the FOKlife and definitely pay better attention to the little bit of meat I buy and where it comes from.
Should we be concerned? Hell yeah. I think so.
The article is currently in stores now and you can read it online at UpscaleMagazine.com.

Concerned? That is a very light and nice way to say it. We should be appalled, concerned, pissed off and a whole host of other words about what business does to our food supply.
It makes me crazy to think that business is the driving force behind school lunches and the such.
C’mon people get a grip on what you put into your system and know what is going on around you as it isn’t pretty.
Right!
I think our society really lives in denial and doesn’t want to see what’s really happening.
Thanks for shaking us up!
I’ve been buying grass fed and local meat years ago after my doctor recommended it for some female issues. They all went away. I’m thankful that DC has tons of farmer’s markets and I’ve become quite attached to one and he’s my go to guy for all things meat. Great article Lorraine.
Most people are living in the Matrix! Maybe the undercover investigation on that company McDonald’s uses to make those wonderful Egg Mcmuffins might wake up the folks! I was appalled this morning when I saw the undercover video, dead rats, dead chickens, all together with the live chickens! Just Nasty
